ANESTHESIA HISTORY ASSOCIATION

12th Annual Spring Meeting Information

[last updated
5 April 2005]

The Anesthesia History Association's 12th annual Spring Meeting will be held Wednesday, April 6 and Thursday, April 7, 2005 in Birmingham, Alabama, U.S.A.

Registration brochure in Word and PDF formats

The venues for all events unless otherwise noted will be the Sheraton Birmingham Hotel or the Medical Forum located next door to the hotel in the Birmingham Jefferson Convention Complex. The meeting will be held just prior to the annual meeting of the American Association for the History of Medicine in Birmingham April 7-10, also at the Sheraton and Medical Forum. The program for the 2005 AAHM meeting is available here. General information about attending events at the Medical Forum is available here.

This should be a great time to be in Birmingham; the azaleas and dogwoods are likely to be in bloom, making the area a very attractive springtime destination.  Besides the meeting itself, Birmingham – “The Magic City” – offers a wide variety of attractions and dining options.  Some of these can be found at the convention bureau’s website (http://www.bcvb.org/). Some wonderful photographs of Birmingham architectural landmarks can be found on the WWW page of photographer Larry O. Gay:
http://larryogayartist.oceansfree.com/index.html

Birmingham is served by American, Continental, Delta, Northwest, Southwest, United, and USAir, as well as a few of the smaller regional airlines.  Although the taxi fare for the short distance from the airport to the hotel is inexpensive, those staying at the Sheraton are eligible to take advantage of the hotel’s free shuttle service to and from the airport.  The city is also served daily by Amtrak via the Crescent Line (New York-New Orleans).  For those who choose to drive to the meeting, parking is available at the hotel at the rate of $9 per day for registered guests.

Previous Annual Spring Meeting Programs

The 1999 meeting was held in Bristol, England, in conjunction with the History of Anaesthesia Society and papers published in the HAS Proceedings. No spring meeting was held in 2001. The Waters 75th Anniversary conference in Madison, Wisconsin, in June 2002 served as the spring meeting for that year; the published proceedings are now available from the Wood Library-Museum of Anesthesiology. A WLM publications order form is here.
